The SS Grainton Dive Site

This is considered one of the most beautiful dive sites that anyone can visit. However, it is advisable for advanced divers due to its depth and the distance it takes from the shore. But for sure, once you take the risk of diving its wrecks, you will be amazed with all the wonders that it has to offer.

The history of the SS Grainton began with it being built by Chapman and Willan who owned four ships all with the names of SS Grainton. But this was the very first which sank deep in St. Thomas. It was built in 1911 and launched in March 26 of the same year.

Now the entire ship lies deep about 110 feet under the waters with all the gunwales open to give a reveal of its 3 huge steam engines where were all made frozen in time. The engine measures about 20 feet high and 10 feet wide and now serves as home to many schools of fish. Watch out too for large nurse sharks and pelagic prowlers with this deep level of water.
