The Fort Christian Museum was founded in 1680 with the purpose of defending the Danish settlements. This is considered a National Historic Landmark and considered to be the oldest building to be of use in St. Thomas.

It also became the governor’s residence, a worship place and even a police station. But now, it is held as a museum. It was in 1600 when the Danish government occupied the tiny island. This very US National Landmark is the one which protected the entire town from various pirates and other European armed conquerors.

The fort was said to be under constant renovation as to maintain its uniqueness. So before heading there, better check out the net for more information about the place.

Concerts and Musical Events In St. Thomas Reformed Church

This church is known to be one of the oldest churches in the Caribbean section. It was created in 1660 and was first initiated by the pioneer settlers of the region. However, with the unity of all the involved ministers and congregation, the history of the island was further shaped for the past 350 years.

For the last 14 years, the pastor who led the church services was rev. Jeffrey Gargano. The entire credibility of the church also depends on the status it holds in the world. It belongs to one of the oldest denominations in the US which is the Reformed Church founded in 1862.

This 2010, there will be a series of concerts and musical events that every visitor of the island should not miss.

The Historic St. Thomas Synagogue

Everything that you will see when you come visit St Thomas Synagogue came from way back 1833. From the benches to the bima, all were made out of mahogany that used to be found abundantly on the island. All the chandeliers though were from Europe, specifically Holland.

Its walls are all fireproof since the building was made out of bricks and other kinds of stones instead of wood. Those stones were believed to be quarried from Europe. Its sand floor is another of its most interesting features. Many legends say that this is the very path that Moses and his children walked for the whole 40 years.

Consistent restorations were being made to the place and by 1995 to around 1996, there was a tiny museum that was added to the synagogue. It was named after Johnny Weibel who was a congregation member. The said museum displays the history of the congregation and some of the rest of the Jewish history spread on the island.

In 1820, the Frederick Lutheran Church was constructed few blocks away from the Main Street in memory of Denmark’s reign over the Virgin Islands. This sturdy church with majestic bell tower was known as the official house of worship of the Danish West Indies.

This historical site remains a beauty as it withstood several disasters like massive fires in the past. Presently located at Norre Gade in Charlotte Amalie, this Frederick Evangelical Lutheran Church’s architecture is a mixture of the gothic era and neo-classical look as presented by it’s grand front steps.

Decorated with stained window glasses and tough archwaysr, this church is famous for being a wonderful wedding venue. The minister that regular preaches in this church and the services being offered is described by several tourists as friendly and heart-warming. If you are planning to get married, better check this one out.

St. Thomas’ Places of Worship: Cathedral Church of All Saints

To commemorate the end of slavery, the Cathedral Church of All Saints was constructed around the 19th century. This fascinating church was excavated on St. Thomas Island and has solid ground foundation.

This historical church was built using yellow-colored bricks that were once used as counterweight for ships. These bricks were left by merchants on the island’s sea shore in exchange for basic commodities like sugar and molasses.

The church’s architectural structure may seem so simple but it is worth a visit on your vacation. It was further beautified by bordered white windows with thick archways. Whether you are religious or not, you can drop by the Domini Gade in Garden Street to look for it yourself.
