Formerly used as African slave trade market and auction site, the Market Square is open to the public for purchasing basic commodities especially Caribbean spices that are being sought after by the tourists. A great stop for fresh products at the north side of Main Street, the Market Square offers vegetables, fruits and condiments such as peppercorns and nutmeg mustard along the Strand Gade, Charlotte Amalie. However, the people are often too busy to give you their full attention especially on Saturday which is the busiest day of the week. The unroofed Market Square is located next to the two-storey building of the former St. Thomas Bank.
