Harrison’s cave was named after Thomas Harrison who owned much of the area in the 1700’s.
In the 18th and 19th century, expeditions were made in this cave but none got far due to the challenges getting in. In 1974, the cave was developed as a show cave. Tunnels were built to accommodate trams. Then in 1981, the cave was opened to the public.
Harrison’s cave is 2.3 kilometres long. The largest cavern in it is 50 feet high. This cave is an active carrier of water, so then, its stalagmites are growing faster than any other cave in geological researches.
